Sensible decisions based on QoS
نویسنده
چکیده
Network Quality of Service (QoS) criteria of interest include conventional metrics such as throughput, delay, loss, and jitter, as well as new QoS criteria based on power utilization, reliability and security. In this paper we suggest a theoretical framework for the characterization and comparison of adaptive routing algorithms which use QoS as the criterion to select between different paths that data transmitted in the network (e.g. packets, connections, etc.) may take. Our objective is not to analyze QoS, but rather to design randomized routing policies which can improve QoS. We define a QoS metric as a non-negative random variables associated with network paths which satisfy a sub-additivity condition along each path. We define the QoS of a path, under some routing policy, as the expected value of a non-decreasing measurable function of the QoS metric. We discuss sensitive and insensitive QoS metrics, the latter being dependent on the routing policy which is used. We describe routing policies simply as probabilistic choices among all possible paths from some source to some given destination. Sensible routing policies are then introduced: they take decisions based simply on the QoS of each available path. Sensible policies, which make decisions based on the QoS of the paths, are introduced. We prove that the routing probability of a sensible policy can always be uniquely obtained. A hierarchy of m-sensible probabilistic routing policies is then introduced and we provide conditions under which anm+1−sensible policy provides better QoS on the average than an m− sensible policy.

متن کاملSensible Routing in Large Scale Networks
Delivering QoS in large scale networks is an important issue. We introduce sensible routing networks. In these networks, the packets make self-routing decisions based only on local information. Hence, the amount of information is independent of the size of the network. Sensible routing allows QoS goals for large scale networks to be met with less transmission overhead than active routing algori...
متن کاملQoS-Based web service composition based on genetic algorithm
Quality of service (QoS) is an important issue in the design and management of web service composition. QoS in web services consists of various non-functional factors, such as execution cost, execution time, availability, successful execution rate, and security. In recent years, the number of available web services has proliferated, and then offered the same services increasingly. The same web ...
متن کاملQoS Control by Means of COPS to Support SIP - Based Applications
The COPS protocol has been designed to enable communication on the interface between the policy decision administrator and the policy enforcement devices in a policy-based networking environment. It can be recognized that on the same interface there is the need to transfer information related to the request of resource by QoS clients and for the allocation of resources by resource allocation se...
متن کاملA New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions
Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...
